Belize Electricity Limited Faces Cyberattack

Payroll records, customer information, and human resources data – these are a few of the documents that hackers were able to acquire from the Belize Electricity Limited’s network infrastructure.  According to Sean Fuller, the General Manager for Finance and Business Support, there were no real sensitive data or information.  He did say, however, that one can never be too careful.

Since the infiltration, BEL has established an internal group called C-CERT.  Fuller noted that the group is still assessing the level of data leakage.  Meanwhile, the General Manager for Employee and Corporate Services, Dawn Sampson-Nunez, the company will be reaching out customers as they work through this event.

Fuller noted that this attack was a brutal lesson, but the company will use it to prevent a reoccurrence.
