Belize Participates in Multinational Effort to Address Irregular Migration

Belize is joining forces with several Latin American countries to stem the irregular flow of migration to the United States. According to the Mexican government, this year alone, 1.7 million migrants arrived at the Mexican-US border, which created a huge political issue in both nations. To quell the issue, this weekend, high-level delegations met in Palenque Chiapas to discuss ways of addressing the many challenges caused by the increase of irregular migrant flows. Representing Belize was Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde, Belize’s Ambassador to Mexico Oscar Arnold, and a Belizean delegation. Today, Hyde explained that the exchange centered on finding a solution to migration flows roiling two continents.
