Belizean Maya activists speak on the importance of Indigenous rights

Yesterday, Maya activists, Cristina Coc, Pablo Mis, and Filiberto Penados held a panel discussion at the University of Pennsylvania USA on the history of Indigenous rights, ongoing land negotiations, and the future of the Maya People. The presentation was a part of an event dubbed “Decolonize the Future: Defending Indigenous Rights and Lands.”  According to “The Daily Pennsylvania”, the team discussed how they’ve been able to make progress, not just in winning the legal battles, but actually implementing it on the ground.” The discussions also touched on how the Maya Leaders Alliance and the Toledo Alcaldes Association are working to promote the environmental conservation and rights of Belizean Indigenous People
