Brawl at Shisha’s Bar: Women Charged, Some Plead Guilty

Earlier this month a video of a brawl outside of Shisha’s Bar on Newtown Barracks went viral and today seven of the women involved were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. Britney Ann Teichroeb, her sister LeAnn Teichroeb, Janira Black, Kiana Dawson, Nolberta Pau, Nellisha Tillett, and a 17-year-old minor in the presence of her mother, were all charged with disorderly conduct. Nolberta Pau was read an additional charge for common assault. In court, the Teichroeb sisters and Janira Black pleaded not guilty to the charges. Meanwhile, Dawson, Pau, Tillett, and the minor pleaded guilty. Dawson and Pau were each fined a total of a hundred and five dollars which needs to be paid by May 3 or they face a month in prison. They were also placed on a three-hundred-dollar peace bond and will have to pay the entire sum if they are charged again within the next three months. Pau pleaded not guilty to her separate charge and is due back in court in relation to that matter on May 27. The Senior Magistrate adjourned the case until April 30, so a social worker can prepare a social inquiry report, which will be considered during sentencing. The three women who pleaded not guilty were offered bail in the sum of $200 each plus one surety of the same amount, which they met. The explosive confrontation started inside the bar on March 17 and ended up on the street. Police identified the women with the assistance of the circulating video footage, and they were sought out and charged not long after. Notably, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams weighed in on the matter, saying that harsher penalties may have to be considered for people who brawl in or outside of nightclubs.
