Cabinet ministers are looking to meet tomorrow, and according to our sources, the main discussion will be the imminent redistricting. It is a matter that is and will further create divisions within the PUP and between them and the UDP. Area Representative for the Port Loyola Division, Gilroy Usher Senior, is already up in arms, refusing to bend to the idea of splitting up his constituency. The minister issued a press release this evening saying that Port Loyola should not be on the elimination list, considering that it is the 5th largest of the 13 divisions in the Belize District. As a matter of fact, Love News understand that Usher is saying, that the Fort George division should be looked at, and not his area. The release reads, quote, “If 2 of the 13 divisions in the Belize District has to be eliminated as a result of insufficient voters in the Area ,Port Loyola should not be one of them ,because with 4640 voters Port Loyola has more than the minimum of 4,600 voters for a division ,and Port Loyola is the second largest division in Belize City and the 5th largest of the thirteen divisions in the Belize District. In fairness the elimination two divisions in the Belize District should begin with the smallest of the eight smallest divisions in the area specifically Fort George, Mesopotamia , Queen Square , Albert, Collet , Freetown, Pickstock, and Caribbean Shores which all have way below the minimum of 4,600 voters each with range from 4,417 voters to as little as 2,243 voters. “End of quote.
