And what case could have kept the DPP from appearing in the Budram case? Well, today, convicted murderer William ‘Danny’ Mason returned to court in Belmopan for his kidnapping case. In 2016, Mason and his henchmen allegedly kidnapped Mennonite Lloyd Friesen and his wife. Friesen claimed that Mason had conned him out of three hundred thousand dollars and kidnapped him and his wife when he requested Mason repay him. Friesen also alleged that the men threatened them and forced him to pay a weekly extortion fee. Mason was charged with 2 counts of kidnapping. This morning Mason arrived under heavy police guard after the trial was delayed last week in Belize City due to Mason requesting a change of venue to Belmopan. In court, the DPP and Mason’s Defence attorneys made submissions. Notably, Mason was found guilty of the murder of Pastor Llewellyn Lucas in 2020 and appealed the ruling but failed in that attempt.
