A variety show fundraiser is being held this week to assist well-known Pediatrician Dr. Cecilio Eck, in his battle against cancer. Dr. Eck, a physician for 28 years and a pediatrician for 19 years, announced last week that he has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, which is affecting his lungs, liver, ribs, and shoulder. The Friends of Dr. Shreck fundraiser is being held at the Bliss Center for Performing Arts and promises a family-friendly show with a loaded lineup of Belizean Artists. The event’s organizer, Melissa Espat, told Love News that the fundraiser is a community initiative that will also show Dr. Eck the support he has from the public.

Melissa Espat, Organizer: “It’s a community initiative in which we reached out to the public to create this dynamic variety show. It’s a different fundraiser. You know normally we see dinners, and barbecues and turkey dinners and those are all great and we were grateful for those but we also said you know if we have this community initiative it’s two fold. It’s not only raising funds but it’s again showing Dr. Eck how much the community loves him and how much we are grateful for his service to our country. So it’s Thursday night at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts and we start, actually the show starts at 7 but we have a happy hour that starts at 6pm. The happy hour will include music and we will have drinks and food available. That starts at 6pm so from 6pm. It’s Thursday, it’s happy hour you know we are trying to think about everything all in one package. So that the 6pm to 7pm happy hour, 7pm we start the show with an intermission in between another chance to purchase your drinks, purchase your food, enjoy music by Cindy Burgos and Leon Banks and so it’s again it’s just an entire night of full enjoyment. It’s not only the show itself but it’s an entire environment of fun, of relaxation and at the same time of giving back.”
Espat noted that all of the artists on the list agreed immediately when asked to perform at the charity event. Love News understands that Dr. Eck left the country today for another round of testing, to determine the source of the cancer.
