Health Ministry Repossesses Fitness Equipment Over Lead Contamination

The Ministry of Health has repossessed outdoor fitness equipment after a study found excessive lead contamination. The fitness sets were donated to Belize in 2018 and distributed across the country to several municipal bodies. Love News spoke with Principal Public Health Inspector John Bodden about the findings. He explained that while lead is a naturally occurring element, excessive exposure can lead to serious health complications.

Principal Public Health Inspector John Bodden emphasized that this discovery highlights the need for future testing to ensure public safety.

The funds for the equipment were part of the Wellness Parks Initiative by the Embassy of the Republic China (Taiwan), but the procurement was managed by the Ministry of Health.
