Historic Hofius Limited Closing Down: Another Blow to Downtown Belize City

Hofius Limited, a legacy business in downtown Belize City, is closing down for good. The company issued a brief and wanting statement this afternoon, confirming that the Albert Street business is preparing to cease operations. The company said quote, “A joint decision has been made by the shareholders of Hofius to close its doors to retail and wholesale trade sometime around the middle of the year – 2024,” End of quote. The company’s management told Love News that Hofius has twenty-two employees, some of whom have been with the company for at least twenty years. The closure is noteworthy as it marks the third major business in downtown Belize City to close its doors in less than a year. Hofius’ closure follows that of Augusto Quan located right down the street back in July 2023; while Bottom Dollar closed down in August 2023.
