Immigration Office in Belmopan Processes Nearly 30,000 e-Passports in Eight Months

Close to thirty thousand e-passports were processed in the last eight months at the Immigration Office in Belmopan.  It is a stark increase when compared to the same period, and that has forced the department to increase its human resources from four to six persons in the printing section.  According to the Director of Immigration, Dr Gilroy Middleton Junior, the new appointment system that has been implemented, continues to show a high demand for passports.

Belize’s new e-passport has earned the country a spot in the ICAO, joining several other countries who have implemented the electronic passport system.  Dr Middleton explains that the new passport has opened doors for new opportunities for Belize.

The Immigration/Passport section is one of three units within the department.  The processing of passports falls under the directorship of Dayna Blades.
