Incident of Gender-Based Violence in Rural Belize Highlights Ongoing Challenges During 16 Days of Activism

Sixteen days of activism began six days ago, but despite the appeal to end gender-based violence, these incidents continue to happen across the country.  The most recent incident occurred just before eight o’clock last night in rural Belize.  Love News understands that 25-year-old, Shona Baptist was stabbed by her common-law-husband in the presence of her three-year-old son.  According to Police blotter, Baptist got into an argument with her spouse, 26-year-old, Manuel Rodriguez when he pulled a knife and inflicted the wound.  Baptist was taken to the hospital by residents in the area, while Police were able to apprehend Rodriguez at the home, and recover the suspected knife used in the incident.  We further understand that Police have obtained surveillance footage, and are in the process of reviewing them.
