A couple from southern Belize injured in a recent road traffic incident are appealing to the public for assistance in covering much needed medical procedures. On Monday night, 24-year-old John Villalta and his wife, Katylin Rivas, were travelling on the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway when they were involved in a road traffic incident. Villalta was heading toward Hopkins Village when a pickup truck, driven by 34-year-old Pedro Bo, swerved into his lane, resulting in a head-on collision. The couple received several injuries and were transported to the Southern Regional Hospital, where they were treated. Villalta alleges that Bo was under the influence of alcohol and driving without headlights. Today, he spoke to our newsroom about the unfortunate ordeal and appealed for the public’s assistance in covering their medical expenses.
Villalta’s wife sustained a broken right arm and several cut wounds to her face. Additionally, the couple says they are yet to make an official police report.
