Meanwhile, another man in his sixties ended up in prison after being unable to pay outstanding fines. Today, sixty-eight-year-old Mexican/Belizean national Roberto Garcia appeared in the Magistrate’s Court charged with a single count of possession of a controlled drug, after being caught with less than a gram of crack cocaine. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined a total of a hundred and fifty-five dollars. In court, it was discovered that Garcia had an unpaid fine of thirty-five dollars from a conviction back in 2016. He was ordered to pay all his fines forthwith but could not do so. The court then prepared a warrant for him to serve out his fines as prison time. He will spend a total of five weeks in jail.
