New Monetary Bills to Feature Faces of George Cadle Price and Philip Goldson

Belize will soon be utilizing monetary bills with the faces of the Right Honorable George Cadle Price and Honorable Philip Goldson.  The new face of the money bills is the result of the recent installation of King Charles in Britain.  Prime Minister John Briceno announced this morning on Vibes Media that he has met with Central Bank to have the process begin.

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “I’ve been in discussion with the Central Bank and I’ve said that since now the Queen has died that new bills have to come up and I presented to Cabinet some – I’ll send it to you so you could show the Belizean people beautiful bills. This is giving us the opportunity now to use our local national heroes. The time has come whereby I think by October I think we’ll be printing, because right now we’re printing because we need right now but I presented to Cabinet and Cabinet has agreed that we should use our national heroes. So going forward starting November / October, the notes are going to be using the pictures of the George  Price and Philip Goldson. We have that national pride that now our national heroes are going to be on the notes.”

It has been 40 years since the design of Belize’s money bills have been significantly altered.  In 1983 when the Central Bank of Belize took over the mandate from the Monetary Authority of Belize, the bills were adjusted to include an image of Queen Elizabeth the Second, and also to bear images of Belize’s birds, animals, marine life and buildings.  As noted by the Prime Minister, the new designs should be in circulation by October this year.
