Notorious Gang Leader Seeks Asylum in the US

He is wanted in Belize for murder, but, tonight, we can tell you that notorious gang figure Ellis Meighan is seeking asylum in the United States of America. The well-known gangster was caught trying to illegally enter the US and was detained by US authorities. Meighan is the main suspect in the murder of Roy Burgess and the attempted murder of Maia James in Placencia. But will be returned to Belize to face his alleged crimes? Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says he isn’t sure because Meighan is now seeking asylum.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I think the issue with Ellis Meighan currently is that he’s claiming asylum so I think the US would go through that asylum process to see if he would meet the requirements to be granted asylum. And if he does not meet the requirements then he will be sent back home. Bearing in mind that we have already issued an arrest warrant for him, likewise his wanted poster is out there so the US authorities should know that he’s wanted in Belize and Interpol Belize is in communication with Interpol in the US to make sure there is proper coordination.”

Reporter: How were you able to locate him ?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “It was not us who located him. He was found entering the US.”

Meighan is no stranger to the police and has been accused of several heinous crimes.
