PAHO Launches Healthy Lifestyle Caravan in Belize for Improved Healthcare Access

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Ministry of Health and Wellness is increasing access to healthcare services for Belizeans through its new Healthy Lifestyle Caravan initiative. The initiative which will be a traveling, one-stop shop for healthcare services was launched on Saturday in Cotton Tree Village, Cayo District, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness. Dr. Karen Lewis Bell, PAHO representative to Belize, explained that the initiative is taking a multi-layered approach to tackling Belize’s high rates of non-communicable diseases, through education and bringing healthcare services to remote areas.

Mortality Data from the Ministry of Health shows that diabetes and cancers were the two leading causes of death in Belize.
