PC Lorray Arzu Passes

Police Constable Lorray Arzu passed away yesterday morning while being hospitalized at the Intensive Care Unit at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Arzu was shot in the head last week while in Dangriga Town. She was in the company of 44-year-old Lionel Rowland when the shooter pounced. Arzu underwent brain surgery but unfortunately, she lost the battle for her life. Police Press Officer ASP Fitzroy Yearwood briefed the media.

ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations, Belize Police Department: First of all I’d like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of our fallen sister PC 88 Lorray Arzu. Ms.Arzu was shot in an incident last Thursday in Dangriga and our colleagues have been trying their best to put together the circumstances surrounding her death. She lost her battle for life yesterday morning sometime around 10:30 AM. when a medical officer pronounced her dead at the intensive care unit at KHMH. We have been receiving several information in regards to what may have happened that cost her her life and we are investigating every angle an as soon as previously promised as any update is available I will make it available to you.

Reporter: Any update on the person who was accompanying her ?

ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations, Belize Police Department: “Well we know that he’s still hospitalized. He’s in a stable condition and we are waiting to properly interview him to see if maybe he could remember something that happened on that scene that would be able to help us solve this murder. This is definitely a murder investigation. Like we said we were more concerned, praying for her life, for her survival than for the classification of injuries. At the end of your treatment would be when the doctor would classfying your injury and unfortunately she did not make it so it’s a full force murder investigation. It was considered an attempt murder investigation because both thier lives were attempted on.”

Arzu’s mother, Lorriane, stated (quote) “No words can come to mind as I try to understand the assignment that the lord had for Lorray. As I prepare to lay my baby girl to rest I’m beyond lost for words and appreciate all the support.  Her visit here was short and sweet. I ask the good Lord for strength for my family and myself as we take on the days ahead.  Nothing is worse than losing a child, but even more painful, because it was an act of violence. I pray not only for my family, but for everyone who knew Lorray.” (End of quote)
