Pregnant Woman Killed in Rural Belize Road Accident

An expecting mother lost her life in a road traffic accident in the early hours of Saturday morning in rural Belize. According to reports, the deceased, 19-year-old, Denia Rowland, and several other people were inside a vehicle that flipped on the Philip Goldson Highway. The woman succumbed to her injuries while the other victims were transported to the hospital. Acting Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero says that the driver was charged as a result of the road traffic accident.

Rowland was a resident of Lord Banks Village, and according to the village’s chairman, Daniel Salinas, her death will be felt by many in the community.

Daniel Salinas, Chairman, Lords Bank Village: “The young lady’s mother works for me as a conductor, she works at Central Transit. It’s a sad day. It’s a total loss. Like I said any mother would feel for their child. Our condolences to the mother, to the family on a whole and you know it’s an accident anything can happen. Yeah I was told it happened in SandHill close to the police station. It was a traffic accident where the vehicle had flipped several times and unfortunately the young lady was the only one that passed away. My understanding is that she was also pregnant.”
