SIB Reports Shifts in Belizean Demographics, Marriage Trends Decline

Over the past decade, much has changed across the country, including its demographics. According to the SIB, fewer Belizeans are now getting married and there is a decline in those claiming religious affiliation. SIB’s Director General, Diana Trejo, explained that among some of the key findings was the number of persons living in common-law unions and the continued increase in the number of persons who identify as being of mestizo heritage.

The SIB notes that women-led households are now 33.5 %, which is a 5.8% increase from 2010.
