Six Brazilian Nationals Fined for Illegal Entry in Belize
Six Brazilian nationals, four men and two women, were arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today on an immigration offense. Fifty-six-year-old Carl Osman Miranda Dos Reis, fifty-three-year-old Luciano De Oliveira Alves, 27-year-old, Marcos Da Silva, 28-year-old, Rafael De Araujo, thirty-five-year-old as Simone Da Silva and forty-two-year-old Lia Oliveira, were charged with one count each of illegal entry. They all pleaded guilty to the charge and were fined a thousand dollars each. They were ordered to pay their fines forthwith or spend six months in prison for default. The Immigration Department also applied to the court for a removal order against the group, which was granted. They are to be deported to their home country within a reasonable time after their fines have been settled. A team of immigration officers met the group on a passenger bus in Hattieville on Monday, November 27. They were detained after being unable to show documentation proving that they had entered the country legally.
