Traffic Collision Claims Life of Laborer on Hummingbird Highway

A laborer of the south was killed last night, just after seven o’clock, in a road traffic incident between miles 41 and 42 on the Hummingbird Highway.  22-year-old, Wilber Carpio, was traveling towards Dangriga from Belmopan when he was hit by an incoming Dodge Dakota pickup truck.  According to the driver, 39-year-old, Manuel de Jesus Ramos of Cotton Tree Village, Cayo, he was heading in the opposite direction towards Belmopan when the collision occurred.  He noted that upon reaching a curve, he saw Carpio on his motorcycle coming directly towards him, but was unable to prevent the crash.  Information suggests that Carpio was overtaking two parked vehicles on the highway which explained why he was in the wrong lane.  Carpio, who resided at mile 36 on the Hummingbird Highway, was on a Rodesha brand dirt bike at the time of the incident.
