Update on Ombudsman Post

Update on Ombudsman Post

We also asked the Prime Minister for an update on the Ombudsman. In December 2022, we reported that Retired Major Gilbert Swazo has been officially appointed but he has been unable to take up the post because he has not been sworn in by the Governor General. PM John Briceno says that Swazo’s appointment must first go before the House.

Hon. John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize:What the CABSEC mentioned to me the Ombudsman has to go to the National Assembly for the assembly to vote on that appointment. We expect to have a meeting on the 3rd of February so that’s when he will officially come on board but he has already started the work from the beginning of the month in getting himself organised and getting the office going.”
