75 Amnesty Registration Cards Distributed in Orange Walk

After months of vetting, the Ministry of Immigration distributed seventy-five amnesty registration cards in Orange Walk Town on Saturday to persons on the road to nationalization. In 2022, the Briceno Administration embarked on a process to regularize some forty thousand migrants. However, the initiative fell short of that goal despite an extension of the application deadline, and only an estimated thirteen thousand persons applied. Prime Minister John Briceno says the first of those persons received the first documents that will enable them to remain in Belize and seek legal employment.

The head of the International Office of Migration (IOM) in Belize, Diana Locke, says the endeavor was imperative to protect the rights of asylum seekers and irregular migrants.

The department will continue distribution in the coming weeks. ///
