Police Commissioner Announces Increase in Highway Patrols Following Recent Fatal Traffic Incidents

Police Commissioner Chester Williams has announced an increase in highway patrols.  The announcement came via social media, and was made on the heels of three major traffic incidents that collectively claimed the lives of nine men. According to Williams, over the next few weeks leading into the New Year, drivers will see an increase in activities by the Police and the Department of Transport on the highways. These will include more highway patrols, strategic checkpoints and issuing of pamphlets with traffic safety tips.  The commissioner has asked for the indulgence of drivers as there will be delays in the flow of traffic due to these precautionary measures.  Interestingly, in his announcement, Commissioner Williams confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the three recent fatal accidents.  He did say, however, that speeding was a major factor.  He noted that with all the improvements being made on the highways, drivers seem more open to the idea of speeding.
