Minister of Agriculture Ordered to Pay Damages in Fatal Collision Lawsuit

Minister of Agriculture Jose Mai must shell out six figures to the family of a woman he knocked down half a decade ago. In 2016, the government minister was driving a Toyota Hilux when he knocked down Julia Arana, a resident of Trial Farm Village. Arana suffered severe injuries and survived, but after two months of attempting to recover at home, she passed away. Arana’s family then filed a lawsuit against Mai because they felt he should have been held responsible for her death. Mai denied the claim and stated he could have done anything to avoid the collision. However, the court ruled Mai was liable for the accident and ordered him to pay the family over 200 thousand dollars in damages. But the politician continued to deny responsibility and appealed the decision. Today, the judgment of that appeal was delivered and it stated that Mai was 60 percent liable and Arana was partially liable. The judgment reduced the payment by forty percent and ordered that he pay one hundred and thirty thousand dollars to Arana’s family with six percent interest.
