Civil Society Organizations Launch Project for Greater Democratic Participation

Civil society organizations gathered in Belize City today for the launch of a project focused on increasing their participation in the democratic process.  The Belize Network of NGOs (BNN) hosted the launch at the Belize City House of Culture in collaboration with the Belize Audubon Society. Organizations representing the youth, the elderly, the environment, and various other focus areas attended the launch of the project. Emmerson Baptist, Executive Manager, BNN, spoke on the impact the organizations are hoping to make.

Her Excellency Marianne Van Steen, European Union Ambassador to Belize, said that the project marks a new step for the EU in supporting democracy in its partner countries.

The BNN has also been working with the People’s Constitution Commission to host workshops on constitutional reform. The BNN says that the workshops form a part of the greater push for greater involvement in democracy.
