Cut-off Date for Voter Registration in Toledo East Bi-Election Passed, Verification Underway

In related news, if you were hoping to transfer or register in the Toledo East division for the bi-election, you would have needed to so by now.  According to the Elections and Boundaries Department, the cutoff date for new registrations was June 10.  In accordance with the Representation of the People Act, those qualified to vote has to appear in the voting register by Nomination Day.  Given that the clerks would have to verify each registration, the department notes that a further deadline could not have been given.  The statement issued today notes, quote, “The cut-off-date allows the officers to conduct their due diligence on all applications received, which includes the publication of supplementary list and holding of revision court as required by law.”  End of quote.
