A gathering coordinated under the auspices of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) was held yesterday on the showgrounds in Belmopan, Cayo District that saw an overview on the capacity of small farmers.  The capacities looked at ranged from entrepreneurial skills to farm planning and production.  The event, according to Gareth Murillo, the Registrar of Cooperatives, was also a part of the International Day of Cooperatives that went under the radar due to Hurricane Beryl.

Murillo noted that the theme of the event focused on family farming.  Pablo Almello of the ProcAzul organization also spoke with Love News indicating that they are in the country to lend technical support and that the project would lend to food security and production in the region.

This event is a key component of the FO4ACP program, which seeks to improve the livelihood, food security, and safety of smallholders and family farmers. Funded by IFAD, the EU, and OACPS, and implemented by regional farmer organizations, FO4ACP works with national farmer organizations, Agri-agencies, and partners in about 70 countries, reaching over 52 million smallholder farmers.
