Tonight, there are questions over the use or the whereabouts of one million dollars from the Belize Solid Waste Management Authority. Late this evening, after the Minister of Sustainable Development, Orlando Habet apprised Cabinet of the matter, his ministry issued a release on the alleged wrongdoing. The ministry says the police have been informed and are investigating the incident. However, the ministry did not provide much details, saying that it could negatively impact the investigation. According to the release, the Ministry of the Public Service has been informed of the incident for further disciplinary action, if necessary. The release didn’t state how much money is involved, but our newsroom was told that is in the area of one million dollars. Additionally, we understand that a key figure in the ministry has been placed on administrative leave.
