The Corozal Town Council held its meeting on trade licenses last night as part of the countrywide streamlining. Our correspondent spoke with the Director of Local Government, Clifford King who explained the essence of last night’s meeting.

Clifford King, Director of Local Government: “Really what is going to happen is that the route of the new trade licensing is modernizing the way we’re looking at trade licensing. So it’s providing some key and salient points and features that will enable that trade license be conducted in a manner that is very predictable, that is very transparent, that is very accountable, that is easy to administrate. And so we had the opportunity tonight to share with the broader Corozal community in what those salient points are and I think that the feedback that we got was excellent. I don’t think that anybody left from here feeling that this was something that they could not bare to taste to put it that way. I don’t sense that people felt any negative way about hte new regime that is about to be implemented. We’ve been doing this now for over seven years actually gong onto ten and so there’s been a lot of consultation, there have been a lot of stakeholder discussion on what this new regime is looking like now and we’re now on the verge of the implementation which come the application year 2025 persons would be using the new features of trade licensing to apply for their license. So I feel very good about the opportunity to share tonight and the kind of feedback that we got from the community.”
