Tonight 21-year-old Julio Paiz Jr. is back behind bars pending sentencing on a charge of manslaughter. Paiz was initially charged with the murder of his friend, 35-year-old Hilberto Caliz, but opted to plead guilty to the lesser charge. Today, Paiz appeared personally in the High Court before Justice Nigel Pilgrim, while his attorney, Emérita Anderson, appeared virtually. In court, Paiz expressed remorse, apologizing to Caliz’s family and accepting that there is nothing he can say or do to replace Caliz’s life. Justice Pilgrim reserved his decision for December 18. On December 11, 2021, Paiz shot and killed Caliz in the San Pedrito area of San Pedro Town. The motive for the murder is said to be revenge, as Paiz blamed Caliz for losing his job.
