Tonight, 31-year-old Lyson James Cacho remains on remand at the Belize Central Prison, awaiting trial for the murder of Jordan Akeem Waight. Cacho’s preliminary inquiry (PI) concluded at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. The prosecutor submitted over 15 statements and documentary exhibits as evidence against him. Waight was murdered on November 23, 2023. Cacho was first arraigned on May 6, 2024, where he was denied bail and remanded to prison. At the PI, Cacho was informed of his alibi warning but chose not to provide any names at that time, though he was given seven days to do so in writing. Notably, Cacho was unrepresented during the PI. According to police reports, on November 23, 2023, Jordan Waight was walking on Barbara Harris Street when he was ambushed by a lone gunman. The gunman, described as a dark-complexioned man with dreadlocks, riding a red bicycle, shot Waight in the head. Waight was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police investigations, including the collection of statements and surveillance video footage, led to Cacho’s arrest and charge. This is not Cacho’s first involvement in a murder case. He was previously charged in 2015 for the murder of Michael Welch and the attempted murder of Kingsley Morrison. In that incident, Michael Welch was shot and killed, and Kingsley Morrison was injured in an ambush at Morrison’s home on Periwinkle Street. Lyson James Cacho remains in custody as he awaits his trial for the murder of Jordan Akeem Waight. We will continue to follow this case and bring you updates as they become available.
