Tonight, two Ladyville residents are on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being accused of a frightening gun incident in the Lords Bank area that allegedly left another man fearing for his life. Twenty-four-year-old Camryn Lozano, described as a well-known street figure, and eighteen-year-old Zyrie Anderson, both labourers from Ladyville, were formally charged in court today. The charges stem from an incident reported on Sunday, April 13. Twenty-six-year-old Shaken James Casimiro told police that he was targeted in two separate encounters that day. According to Casimiro’s report to Ladyville Police, he was first riding his bicycle on Egbert Quilter Street when Anderson, whom he has known for seven years, allegedly approached him, pulled out a black 9-millimeter pistol, and pointed it at him. Casimiro said he rode away towards the 24/7 gas station on the Phillip Goldson Highway. Later, after leaving the gas station, he reported seeing Anderson again, this time driving a white motorcycle. Riding passenger was Camryn Lozano, whom Casimiro has known for ten years. Casimiro alleges that as the motorcycle got within three feet of him when Lozano pulled out a black 9-millimeter pistol from his waistband, pointed it directly at him, and pulled the trigger twice. Casimiro told police the gun only “snapped” both times and did not fire. He said he immediately sped away on his bicycle towards his house, while Anderson and Lozano allegedly drove off on the motorcycle down Egbert Quilter Street. Following Casimiro’s report requesting court action, Ladyville Police launched an investigation, issued wanted posters, and detained both Lozano and Anderson around 11:30 that same Sunday night. This morning, the unrepresented pair appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court Number Two. Both Lozano and Anderson pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault with a firearm upon Shaken James Casimiro. Anderson faced an additional, separate charge of abetment to commit aggravated assault, accused of aiding Lozano. He pleaded not guilty to that charge as well. Due to the nature of the alleged offenses involving a firearm, both men were denied bail under Section 16 of the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act. They have been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until their next scheduled court appearance on June 2. Viewers may recall that Camryn Lozano was previously acquitted of a murder charge. Just last June, he and another man walked free from the July 2020 murder charge of Edgert Baldwin, also known as “Eggie”. Again, both Lozano and Anderson have pleaded not guilty to the current aggravated assault charges and remain in custody tonight.
