Bella Vista Mother Shot Protecting Baby During Deadly Home Invasion

A Bella Vista woman is fighting for her life after being shot several times over the weekend, in a home invasion that also claimed the life of her common-law husband. Nickey Logan and Narjin Ceron were sleeping when their attackers broke in around three o’clock on Saturday morning. The men opened fire on the family, hitting Ceron several times, killing him on the spot. Logan, a mother of three, threw herself over her one-year-and-nine-month-old baby during the ordeal and took as many as six shots defending the child. The gunmen then made their escape. Logan was taken to the Southern Regional Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery and is currently in recovery. Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero spoke on what police have gathered in the investigation thus far.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Officer Commanding Eastern Division: “Investigation revealed that both were in a house at Bella Vista when a male person entered with a firearm and fired several shots towards him causing the fatal injuries to Ceron and the injuries to Logan. We are seeking on person in Bella Vista in regards to this murder investigation. The person entered the house which was opened and he fired the shots. The information we gathered is that he had rivalry with other persons in the village and that is what led to this shooting. I will need to check whether it is drug related. He is known to police. We are looking for one person from Bella Vista.”

Nickey’s sister, Ornela Logan, spoke to us shortly after the surgery. She says that the family is still in shock over what transpired.

Ornella Logan, Sister: “We just know that what she told us that she was eating and somebody broke into the house and she’s not sure if it was one or two persons and the didn’t give them a chance to do anything they started shooting and when she looked she saw that her common-law was not moving and she just wanted to protect her baby. They came to do the shooting and then they ran away. One of the neighbors said they saw two persons running. She’s in critical condition. She just had a surgery. They’re monitoring her. As soon as she came out of surgery the first thing she wanted to know was how her kids were doing, how my little niece was doing because she knew the baby was with her and she’s still in shock and it hasn’t registered well what happened. Just started to move in together so this is definitely not something we were expecting and especially in a village like Bella Vista. We’ve heard things happen there before but nothing like this. Especially to my family we never expected something like this to happen with my family and my sister. My sister was living with me, she and her kids were living with me before she started to move to Bella Vista with her common-law.” 

Romero says that Ceron was known to police and had a previous drug-related charge./
