A Belize City man has been remanded to prison after police allegedly found two rounds of ammunition and a cutter inside a vehicle that crashed during an incident early Friday morning. Twenty-eight-year-old construction worker Antwone Rivero appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today on charges of keeping ammunition without a gun licence and going equipped. He pleaded not guilty to both charges. Police say they were responding to a request to intercept a black Nissan Rogue at around one-forty-five Friday morning when officers came upon the vehicle, which had apparently crashed into a fence near the junction of Wilson and Kelly Streets. According to police, two men got out of the vehicle and ran. Officers pursued them and detained them on Cran Street. The men were identified as Rivero and twenty-five-year-old Patrick Kerr. A search of the vehicle allegedly led to the discovery of a yellow cutter and two live nine-millimetre rounds. Police say both men were charged with keeping ammunition without a gun licence and going equipped. In court, Rivero initially requested an indication of the sentence he might receive if he pleaded guilty. After being told that the offences carried a prison term, he entered not guilty pleas. He was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison until December 28. Kerr’s arraignment was delayed because he remains at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital receiving treatment for an injured hand.
