Aggravated Burglary Occurs in Western Belize

Police are investigating a case of aggravated burglary that took place in western Belize last night.  43-year-old, Benque Viejo resident Michelle Lopez was at home with her daughter, Lakshmi Melchor and her daughter’s boyfriend Olvin Carillo, when someone came calling outside.   Melchor went to check, and found a man she had seen previously.  The man was armed as he entered the yard.  Melchor reportedly ran inside and tried to shut the door, but a struggle ensued, and the stranger then fired a single shot.  Lopez and Melchor ran into a room and locked themselves inside, leaving Carillo outside with the perpetrator. The man then stole a black fanny pack containing twenty-five hundred dollars, which Lopez had made from selling a motorcycle. Police have recovered a single nine-millimeter expended shell from the scene.
