Allan Pollard Criticizes PUP, Claims Unfair Treatment

An upset Allan Pollard took to the media this week and lashed out at the People’s United Party (PUP) saying that he has come under attack for the clothes he wears, and that if he were the child of an affluent PUP he would not have been rejected in Port Loyola.  His heavy loaded statements have given the impression that he has been treated like the black sheep and treated unfairly.  But is this the reality, or did Pollard make a run for ascension too quickly?  The answers to this are relative, but what we can definitively tell you tonight, is that Freetown’s Francis Fonseca is calling out some Pollard’s statements as being mistruths.  According to Fonseca, there were never discussions over his attire, among other allegations.

Francis Fonseca, Area Representative, Freetown Division: “Certainly it was a consensus view, not everybody, not unanimous but the majority view of the national executive that at this time it was best to allow the current era representative who was just elected for the first time in 2020 to allow him the opportunity to build on the success that he has had in Port Loyola.”

Reporter: Did you support Pollard’s candidacy?

Francis Fonseca, Area Representative, Freetown Division: “No, I accepted and supported the recommendation of the National Campaign Committee and the vetting committee which supported Gilroy Usher not being challenged. That’s a complete exaggeration of what happened. Nobody, nobody came close. I was right there sitting there. Nobody came close to blows. That is drama somebody’s dreaming up. No, of course in executive meetings, in political meetings, there’s always some level of drama and heated exchanges. That was it. There was nothing more than that. You know, so I think the meeting ended generally with good respect and a consensus that we were united moving forward.”

Reporter: It was also said that the national executive persons were discussing how he dressed and he said that he didn’t know if they wanted to see him in baggy shirts and sagging his pants. What do you make of those comments?

Francis Fonseca, Area Representative, Freetown Division:  “Well first of all I don’t know where that came from because there was absolutely no discussion.”

Reporter: Did you listen to his interview. ?

Francis Fonseca, Area Representative, Freetown Division: “Yeah, no I’m saying there was absolutely no discussion in the national executive about his dress, the way he dressed. There is absolutely no discussion about that.”

Reporter: So where did he get that from?

Francis Fonseca, Area Representative, Freetown Division: “Well, I don’t know. The same place you get it from. So there was no discussion about the way he dressed. So, you know, again I think you know, we, in the case of Corozal Bay as you pointed out, again that was a recommendation of the process we have in place. A recommendation of the vetting committee, the national campaign committee, and the national executive accepted that recommendation. We have these structures in place for a reason. And so, you know, that was what they recommended and we accepted.”

Pollard gave an interview to a local media house this week where he said that the PUP made a monumental mistake by not allowing him to challenge Gilroy Usher Senior in Port Loyola.
