Alleged Land Fraudster Claims Police Damaged Property in Raid

Alleged land fraudster Doris Grant is back in the news tonight, but this time, Grant says she’s the victim. Grant claims that around 5 a.m. yesterday, truckloads of police officers arrived at her farm in Gardenia Village, Belize District. She says that the officers searched the property while no one was at home and damaged her property. Today, while nothing incriminating was found, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams weighed in on the allegations.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I am not aware of it. I know that Doris Grant had messaged me last night making a complaint and I told her to go to PSB and lodge a complaint there. I don’t need to be aware of every police operation.

Reporter: Sir you are the ultimate micromanager sir.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “No no Mr.Vasquez you always conveniently get it wrong. Understand the meaning of micromanagement. Micromanager is a person who tells his people what to do and how to do it. I don’t do that. My commanders will tell you I give them the latitude to do what needs to be done but when things go wrong it is my duty as the head to step in and correct them, that is no micromanaging. It is holding people accountable for when things go wrong. You would be the same one if I don’t do that and things go wrong you will be the same one to say that as the Commissioner I ought to have known. So please just stop it and let’s be real.”

Reporter: Sir I cannot believe or accept that seven police trucks can move and Chester Williams won’t know.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “The police department is not Channel 7, it’s not. Okay ? Many a times operations are done across this country and I don’t know about it. I have said to my commanders if you need to do an operation do it just let me know the result of it. I cannot keep track of every operation the police conducts, I will go mad.”

Reporter: So were you given the results of last night’s operation ?

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I have not had a chance to speak with those officers who went on that operation. Like I said I was texted last night by Doris Grant and I told her to go to PSB if she believed that what the officers did at her place was a violation of her rights then she can go to PSB and then we’ll look into the matter.”

On Monday, Grant was arraigned on 14 counts of theft, 14 counts of obtaining property by deception, and 12 counts of obtaining money transfer by deception and stands accused of stealing over $120,000 from a woman in the US.
