Anthony Boots Martinez’s Recall Petition Falls Short by 96 Signatures in Port Loyola

96 signatures – that is the amount that Anthony Boots Martinez would have needed to successfully push his recall petition through.  You may recall back in July 2023 Martinez, the former Area Representative for Port Loyola had announced that he would be launching a recall petition against the current representative, Gilroy Usher Senior.  True to his word, he had collected signatures from residents, and on January 16, he delivered them to the Governor General.  While Martinez had called multiple press conferences on the recall petition, including in February when he accused the Governor General of delaying the process, he failed to inform the media that his recall petition had failed.  Love News has learned that on March 21, the Chief Elections Officer had informed the Governor General that the verification process was completed and that Martinez had failed to meet the threshold of signatures needed to trigger the recall.  The Governor General then informed Martinez, in a detailed letter, that he had failed to collect the 1,485 signatures needed for the petition to be successful.  The requirement is for the verified signatures to be equivalent to 30% of the registered voters.  Martinez did submit 1,654 signatures but after the Elections and Boundaries combed through them, only 1,389 signatures were verified; 96 less than what was needed.  Love News understands that 265 signatures were rejected.  According to the Elections and Boundaries, 188 signatures did not match the Elections and Boundaries Department’s record of registered electors, and 14 petitioners are not registered electors.
