Belize Celebrates International Women’s Day

March 8th marks International Women’s Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world. In Belize, this day holds special significance as the country continues to make strides in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. The President of the National Women’s Commission (NWC), Thea Garcia-Ramirez, explains that the organization has planned a series of activities to commemorate the month-long celebration, highlighting the importance of women’s rights and their contribution to society.

This year’s theme is “Embrace Equity” which recognizes the great need for a level playing field that will be conducive to the success of women in society.  Garica-Ramirez says the aim is to raise awareness of the issues in Belize that hinder women from reaching their full potential and promote gender parity.
