Today, the Belize City Council donated essential supplies to primary schools from across the city, to assist them in preparing for the new school year. Principals and other representatives from the 31 inner-city primary schools gathered at the Council’s student hub at City Hall, for the second annual donation ceremony. Schools received items such as sanitary wipes, toilet paper, cans of Lysol spray and gallons of hand sanitizer. Schools also received school bags and 20 back-to-school vouchers each, to distribute to students who are in need. At the ceremony, Mayor Bernard Wagner noted that supporting education is not a part of the council’s legal mandate, but doing so was a choice he and his councilors made to contribute positively to Belize’s development.
Wagner added that the donation also represents the Council’s commitment to supporting Children’s rights in Belize.
The donations have an approximate value of thirteen thousand dollars.
