Belize City Man Fined for Slapping Daughter in Domestic Dispute

A Belize City father was fined in court today for slapping his adult daughter.  Fifty-five-year-old Jeffery Trapp, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today charged with two counts of harm, one for his daughter and the other for his wife. In relation to the count against his daughter, Trapp pleaded guilty and was fined seven hundred dollars plus five dollars cost of court. He was ordered to pay that fine by September 30 or he will face six months in prison. With relation to the second count, Trapp pleaded not guilty and said that he did not even know his wife had made a report against him since he never hit her. He was granted bail in the sum of a thousand dollars which he met. He is due back in court on August 9. Trapp explained in court that he was having a discussion with his daughter on Monday, July 8, when she became disrespectful to him. Trapp said she began cursing him out and he slapped her so she would stop. This led to her filing a police report. While he says he does not know what prompted the report from his wife, the court has ordered that he remain a minimum of a hundred yards away from her during the court proceedings.
