Justin Alexander Moody, construction worker from Belize City’s Northside, is now on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being arrested and charged with possession of ammunition. The 22-year-old of Hydes Lane appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #3, facing a single charge of kept ammunition without a gun license. The charge stems from an incident on Monday, March 10, at the corner of New Road and Hydes Lane, where Moody was allegedly found in possession of live rounds of ammunition despite not having a valid gun license from the Firearms and Licenses Board. In court, Moody attempted to plead guilty with an explanation, stating that he was told by someone to enter a guilty plea. However, the Senior Magistrate rejected his plea, emphasizing that a guilty plea must be entered voluntarily and only if the accused genuinely admits to the offense. Consequently, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. Due to the nature of the offense, which falls under Section 16 of the Crimes Control and Criminal Act, the court was unable to grant bail. Moody was therefore remanded to the Belize Central Prison and is scheduled to reappear in court on May 12, 2025.
