Belize City Woman Escapes Attempted Assault After Intruder Breaks into Home

A Belize City woman became the victim of a frightening ordeal in the wee hours of Sunday. At around three thirty, the victim and her 9-year-old son were sleeping inside their home when an intruder forced his way in. The woman told police she was awakened when the trespasser pulled the sheet off her bed and pointed a firearm at her. The man then forced her out of the bedroom and into her bathroom, where he demanded she take a shower. Fearing for her life, the woman complied and, shortly after, the assailant took her into her living room. The man began to inappropriately touch her and attempted to rape her. A struggle ensued, and, fortunately, the woman managed to force him off. She told police her son then woke up and began to call out for her. She then pleaded with the assailant to allow her to put him back to bed, and he agreed. Shortly after, the woman noticed the intruder was no longer inside the room and fled the house. She then secured her home and called the police. So far, there are no suspects.
