Belize Moves Towards Establishing a Hemp Industry with Renewed Oversight and Research Initiatives

Belize is also looking to establish a hemp industry. As we reported, this month, the government reactivated its Hemp Oversight Committee, which has since met to evaluate an application from an entity seeking an industrial hemp activity license. The industry is ripe for Belize as hemp can be used in various ways and its cultivation may be a boost for local farmers. Last week, our newsroom spoke to Caesar Godinez, who is certified in hemp cultivation, about steps being taken to establish a research lab focused on testing hemp products.

Caesar Godinez, Hemp Expert: “We use tarpines from the CBD products , the CBD oil and then we use tarpines form other natural plants in Belize to create some of our products. We are gonna launch in November. So we have products for epilepsy, high blood pressure, we’ve developed some skin cancer products, products for acne so that’s what we’ve been working on right now. But it takes a lot of time since it’s not only I can create this in my kitchen or like that it has to go through labs and it has to be certified from doctors and different medical facilities all in Mexico. Belize is not being certified yet so we have to do clinical trials so we’re starting to do some clinical trials already and we haven’t talked much about it because we’re still working on that. We’re in the process of opening a lab right now in Belize. So we’ll be having the first lab in Belize. The lab won’t only be to do research on hemp or CBD, anybody that has anything that they want to do a research on will have,  it’s gonna be a full lab so people that want to produce their own product they can come and we’ll be able to do research for their products as well. So it’s not only for our products. So it will benefit not just our business but it will benefit anybody that wants to do research.”

Several Belizeans have since obtained licenses to cultivate hemp.
