Belize Police Bring Holiday Cheer with Toy Distribution Initiative in Belize City

The Belize Police Department brought some Christmas cheer to around a hundred children from the Belize District, particularly Belize City, today. The department held its annual toy distribution for in Belize City this afternoon, an initiative was spearheaded by the Community Policing Unit, with support from the Taiwanese Embassy and British High Commission. Officers from within the unit chose the recipients based on need. National Commander of Community Policing Assistant Commissioner Howell Gillett said that the annual toy distribution helps to bridge the gap between the community and police. Gillett said that initiatives such as these work towards the goal of eradicating gang violence by bringing children from rival communities together to show that they can live in peace. Acting British High Commissioner Christine Rowlands and Taiwanese Ambassador, Lily Li-Wen Hsu also spoke about their contributions to the initiative.
The department also provided the children with snacks and entertainment. The event was held at the Swift Hall in the St. Martin’s community.
