The Belize Police Department will see another intake in the coming weeks. This is one of several decisions made in this week’s meeting of Cabinet. The approval is for some two hundred twenty-five officers to be recruited. As we reported earlier, Cabinet has also given the nod for a new hospital in Belize City. Additionally, the Ministry of E-governance made a presentation to apprise Cabinet of the ongoing project to catalogue all government services. Data collection for the project involves thirty-seven agencies and over two hundred and eighty government services. The Ministry also gave an update on the National Digital Agenda 2022-2025 which saw the installation of digital connect centres in marginalized communities across the country. The project is supported with funding from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the UNDP. Cabinet also approved the establishment of new posts within the Ministry of New Growth Industries which will promote and manage emerging sectors. Cabinet also requested that the Minister of Sustainable Development spearhead an initiative to have one million trees planted within the next five years, with the assistance of the public. The project aims to have the trees planted within urban and suburban areas. This project aims to involve all Belizeans in planting one million trees over the next five years, especially in urban and suburban areas. Finally, Cabinet urged all Belizeans to remain vigilant as the country approaches the most active part of the hurricane season.
