Belize Seeks Seat on ICAO Council at Global Aviation Symposium

Belize is being represented at the 2025 Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) by the CEO of the Ministry of Blue Economy and Disaster Risk Management Kennedy Carrillo. The CEO is in attendance to advocate for Belize’s candidacy for a seat on the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council for the 2025-2028 term. The ICAO Council is the highest governance body for global civil aviation, and securing a position would significantly raise Belize’s profile as an active and responsible partner in international aviation. The GISS, which brings together ministers, aviation directors, and key stakeholders, focuses on important topics such as resource mobilization, global challenges in air transportation, and the impact of these challenges on the aviation sector. This year’s symposium emphasizes advancing the ICAO’s “No Country Left Behind” initiative, which aims to ensure that no country is left behind in the global aviation network and also sets new strategic long-term goals. According to the government, Belize’s active participation in the symposium and candidacy for the ICAO Council underscores the country’s commitment to a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and forward-thinking aviation sector.
