Burglary Suspect Sentenced to Jail for Escaping Custody

Fifty-four-year-old Orlando Diaz will be spending his fifty-fifth birthday at the Belize Central Prison after pleading guilty to escaping lawful custody. He pleaded guilty with the explanation that officers were detaining him for a burglary at his own home, and he ran because he was stressed out. Despite an early guilty plea, Diaz was sentenced to three months in jail due to several unpaid fines from previous convictions. The incident happened on July 8. Police detained Diaz on Miles Aveune in Burrell Boom Village. Diaz turns 55 on July 25.
