Cabinet Approves Tourism, Road Safety and Human Rights Initiatives

Cabinet has approved a series of measures aimed at strengthening tourism sustainability, improving road safety, and advancing national development initiatives following its recent meeting. After reviewing a rapid assessment of visitor-experience challenges in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, Cabinet endorsed the creation of a detailed improvement plan and committed resources toward priority upgrades intended to safeguard the long-term sustainability of tourism on both islands.  Members were also updated on the work of Belize’s International Cooperation Council and the outcomes of its recent partners’ conference, which focuses on transforming national development plans into investment-ready projects as part of the country’s green transition.  In governance matters, Cabinet noted progress by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade toward establishing a National Human Rights Institution. The upcoming initiative, titled “Advancing Human Rights in Belize: Establishing a National Human Rights Institution,” is expected to be announced shortly.  Cabinet further confirmed that several new bills will be introduced at the next sitting of the House of Representatives to expand the authority of traffic wardens and strengthen enforcement of road safety regulations.  Finally, the Government is encouraging all Belizeans to get vaccinated against influenza as a public health precaution to protect themselves and their communities.
